Chris Pronger broke a three-all tie in the third period and St. Louis stayed alive with a 5-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks, who now lead the series 3-2.
"If we lose, we're done. This was an obvious turning point, but the next game is just as huge and I think everyone here realizes that," Pronger said. The Blues blew a 3-0 first period lead, but managed to escape with a scare. St. Louis is trying to avoid becoming the first President's Trophy winner eliminated in the first round. "We had 20 minutes to save the season and we showed a lot coming out in the third period," said Blues defenseman Al MacInnis. "It's hard being down 3-1 and then to tie, but we pulled it through and we'll need to keep it going to Game Six." Sharks won three straight games after losing the series opener. "We're still a confident team," Owen Nolan said. "We didn't expect to sweep them four games. They finished first for a reason." "Either of us could have won the last four games," Sharks coach Darryl Sutter said. "The bottom line is that it's three games to two and we just need to stay with our game plan." |
