Steve Thomas scored twice including the game-winner at 14:47 of overtime to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 2-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators. Toronto now leads the playoff series 3-2.
After a scoreless first period Joe Juneau gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead with a one-timer on a perfect pass from Andreas Dackell. Ottawa's lead held until 15:30 of third period when Thomas tied the game on a hard slapshot to the left upper corner past Tom Barrasso's shoulder. In overtime both team had several scoring chances before Thomas put Sergei Berezin pass into the net for the game-winner erupting the sellout crowd of 19,373 at Air Canada Centre. Curtis Joseph made 37 saves for Toronto, which won its fourth straight overtime playoff game. The Senators, who had won the last two games, lost their 10th straight road postseason contest. Game 6 is on Monday at Ottawa. |
