Andy Delmore scored two goals including the game-winner at 11:01 of overtime as Philadelphia beat Pittsburgh 4-3 Tuesday. The Penguins still lead the Eastern Conference semifinal series 2-1.
"The game-winner was one of the happiest moments of my life," said Delmore, who played only 27 games with the Flyers in the regular season. "I was just trying to get up ice. (Keith) Jones gave me a shovel pass and I was lucky to get it from my backhand to my forehand." The Flyers again outshot the Penguins, 44-18 overall and staggering 11-1 in overtime. "I don't know if all the guys were aware of it," defenseman Chris Therien said. "We were bound to get something going in overtime. We were due." Jaromir Jagr had two goals and an assist for the Penguins, who came back from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits before losing in OT. "No, I don't think we ran out of gas," Penguins coach Herb Brooks said. "Jagr really reached out to bail us out tonight, and we really didn't have a lot of things going." "It seemed like we were always coming from behind," Jagr said. "It's tough to do that against a team like Philadelphia. We spent a lot of energy after we got behind 2-0." Keith Jones and John LeClair also scored for the Flyers, who hadn't won a playoff overtime game since Eric Lindros' goal beat New Jersey on June 7, 1995. "We didn't fold," Flyers goalie Brian Boucher said. "It was almost like we knew it was our turn to win." Game 4 is on Thursday at Pittsburgh. |
