Avs Win In OTArchived from 1999-2000 season. | |
Chris Drury scored 10:21 into overtime to give the Colorado Avalanche a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings and a commanding 3-1 lead in the Western Conference semifinal series.
"It's pretty exciting," Drury said. "It was like a dream come true to score a goal like that." "Give (Adam) Deadmarsh all the credit. He got it out of our zone," he said. "I was trying to cheat a bit, hoping he'd get it out. If he didn't, we might have been in a little trouble. I tried to give it to Peter (Forsberg) because he knows what to do on a 2-on-1 better than me. He's a playmaker. He drove the net, made a nice pass to my backhand and I just slid it in." Detroit held a 2-1 lead late in the third period before Dave Andreychuk scored to tie the game with 4:27 left in regulation. "It's a pretty big goal," said Andreychuk. "Hopefully, I have a few more left in me." Detroit will now face elimination and they have to win to stay alive. Last year the Avalanche beat the Wings in six games after losing the first two. "You just go in and think of the next game," Detroit coach Scotty Bowman said. "You can't think beyond the next game. It's not like we're getting whipped or there's a big edge either way. We're capable of winning the next game. That's how I look at it." "We had a 2-1 lead with five minutes left. We played the type of game we wanted to play, but unfortunately, we ran around a little bit," Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios said. "It got whacked out of the air, off the post and back to them. They kept coming at us." Game 5 is on Friday at Colorado. |
