Mark Recchi and John LeClair each scored a goal as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 on Tuesday to win the second-round series in six games.
The Flyers became the 13th team to win a series after falling behind 2-0 at home. Philadelphia will meet New Jersey in the Eastern Conference finals. "It says a lot about this team that we were down 2-0 and we came back to win three in their building," John LeClair said. In the opening minute of the game Flyers' Keith Primeau took a crushing hit from Penguins' Bob Boughner and fell on the ice apparently unconscious. He was carried from the ice on a stretcher and taken to the hospital. "I saw the guy go down," LeClair said. "But you go on and you play the game. I really didn't see the hit. Keith assured us he's OK. That's good to know." The Penguins had a lot of chances to put the series away, but lost their first two home games in overtime, including the five-overtime marathon Game 4. "I think maybe we thought it was going to be easy after it was 2-0," Jagr said. "Losing that (third) game in overtime was tough. If we win either of the overtime games, we're up 3-1. It's not going to hit us for three or four days what happened to us." "When we won Game 3 in overtime, that was the big thing," LeClair said. "Then when we won that game in five overtimes ..." |
