Claude Lemieux and Alexander Mogilny each scored in the third period as the New Jersey Devils beat the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 to force a deciding Game 7 in the Eastern Conference finals.

"We kept getting opportunities, we kept getting shots on net and our guys were skating well and playing well," Lemieux said. "And I felt something had to happen at one point or another. Every guy felt we were playing hard and we weren't going to worry about what was going to happen. And we knew the outcome would take care of itself."

The Devils will try to become the first team in NHL history to come back from a 3-1 deficit in Conference finals.

"We don't have anything yet," Devils defenseman Ken Daneyko said. "I hope we didn't climb back for nothing because Game 7 is going to be extremely difficult."

Lemieux broke a scoreless tie with 8:34 left in the third period. Mogilny then scored at 16:33 before Eric Lindros scored with 30 seconds left in the game to cut the Devils lead to one goal.

Lindros played his first game in the playoffs and came very close to scoring in the second period when he put the puck in the net as time expired. Officials ruled no goal and replay upheld the call.

"Obviously it would've helped, but heading into the third, on the road, tied, is not a bad situation," Lindros said. "I didn't hear the buzzer. I didn't know what was going on."

New Jersey dominated most of the game holding the Flyers to 13 shots including only 2 in the second period.

Lindros, who hadn't played since early March, looked more comfortable as the game progressed creating scoring chances and delivering couple of hits.

"It feels good to play hockey again," Lindros said. "This is a special time of year. We have to make sure we make it special Friday after the game in the dressing room."
