Hullava Game!Archived from 1999-2000 season. | |
Brett Hull scored two goals as the Dallas Stars bounced back impressively to beat the New Jersey Devils 2-1 and tie the Stanley Cup finals one game a piece.
The Stars are very happy to split the first two games as the series shifts to Dallas. Game 3 is on Saturday at the Reunion Arena. "To come out even after that first game is a big boost to us," Hull said. "We knew we had to play a great game to come away with a split." The Devils youngster line Elias-Arnott-Sykora had no goals or assists after totaling 11 points in Game 1. Alexander Mogilny scored New Jersey's only goal tying the game at 1-1 in the second period. "We just didn't play as well as we did in the first game," Devils center Bobby Holik said. "They played the way they wanted to play. We let them get back in the series. It shouldn't have happened. It's our fault, we just didn't show up determined enough to win. They showed us they wanted to win more than we did." Mike Modano assisted on both goals and Jere Lehtinen had an assist on the game-winner. Lehtinen partially misfired a shot which was then tipped in by Hull with 4:16 remaining in the third period. "Lehtinen, I think, kind of just backhanded it real soft and I went to grab it," Martin Brodeur said. "Brett Hull was cutting through and just hit it out of mid-air." Ed Belfour was back in his normal spectacular form after a not-so-good performance in Game 1. Belfour made 27 saves including key saves early in the final period. "I felt a lot stronger today and was seeing the puck really well," said Belfour, who blamed his Game One performance on an adverse reaction to a prescription decongestant. "It definitely felt like I was back on track." |
