Rangers Snap Winless StreakArchived from 1999-2000 season. | |
Adam Graves scored with 34 seconds left in overtime as the New York Rangers ended a seven-game winless streak with a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"We didn't sit back and didn't go into a shell as we had in previous games. It's great to get the two points," Graves said. "It seems we've been on the short end in overtime. The point probably means more to us than it does to them." Peter Nedved and John MacLean also scored for the Rangers in a game that was played wide open with a lot of odd-man rushes. The usual Eastern trapping defense was refreshingly absent. "A game like that is really an entertaining game," Rangers coach John Muckler said. "The skill level was good on both sides, sensational saves on both ends, it's just a shame the game can't be played like that all the time." Kevyn Adams and Mats Sundin tallied for Toronto, which is 0-8-1 at Madison Square Garden since December 19, 1990. "We turned the puck over way too much. We would carry it up and then give it to them," Toronto coach Pat Quinn said. "We played clearly better in the third period, good enough to get a point." It was the fifth time in six games -- and 10th in 14 contests -- that the Rangers went into overtime. The Rangers, 0-4-3 with one regulation tie in their previous seven, had not won since beating Tampa Bay in overtime Dec. 19. |
