Mats Sundin scored 1:38 into overtime and Sergei Berezin scored twice, including a game-tying goal with 8.3 seconds left in regulation, as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-3.

"We were a lot sharper tonight, right from the start," Maple Leafs coach Pat Quinn said. "That could've been any number of reasons, but we had a lot of jump and fortunately we got a win."

Sundin scored the game-winner on a power play after Detroit's Chris Chelios took a double-minor for high-sticking Igor Korolev in the first minute of overtime. Toronto has won six of their last seven.

"I think this game proves that we can play with the best teams in the league," Sundin said. "It's nice to see that we can beat Detroit, Dallas and Colorado. Those are the best in the West. One of them will probably make the finals."

The Maple Leafs had a 2-0 lead after two periods, but Red Wings battled back. Brendan Shanahan scored and Steve Yzerman added two goals to give Detroit the lead, but Leafs pulled goalie Curtis Joseph in the final minute and Berezin forced the overtime.

"It's disappointing, but after they scored the first two goals maybe we should be happy with the point," Detroit defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom said. "That's a really strong team. But it's kind of disappointing when you're that close to winning."

Detroit saw its season-high eight-game unbeaten streak come to an end despite of outshooting Toronto 39-27.
