Brendan Shanahan scored two goals and Ken Wregget made 29 saves for the Detroit Red Wings in a 4-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks.
"Our line been skating well and getting chances," said Shanahan. "We still feel like we can play better, we're not satisfied." Shanahan broke a 2-2 tie at 4:58 on a wrist shot under crossbar that went in and out of the net so quickly that the referee nor the goal judge signaled a score and the play went on for almost two minutes before replay clearly showed a goal. "I was pretty sure," Shanahan said. "I got back to the bench and they asked me if it was in. I said I was about 95 percent sure, which is pretty sure. I was just hoping for a whistle, because I knew those minutes we lost, we'd have to replay them." Wregget, starting in place of injured Chris Osgood, played a solid game improving to 4-5. Osgood has a hairline fracture in his right hand. "I'm ready. Coming here I knew my role was to play when Ozzy can't whether it was two games, two weeks or two months, I have to be ready no matter what," said Wregget. The Red Wings defeated the Sharks for the second time this season and improved to 16-1 all-time at home against them in the regular season. Detroit is 25-6-2 overall against San Jose. "We've just got to play better," Sharks' Mike Ricci said. "Anyone who thinks we're playing well enough to win wasn't here." |
