Dominik Hasek became the first goalie with five shutouts in one postseason as the Detroit Red Wings advanced to the Stanley Cup finals with a 7-0 routing of the Colorado Avalanche in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals.
"It doesn't mean anything," said Hasek. "It's nice, but I have other goals and they're not about shutouts in the playoffs."
The Red Wings scored on their first two shots and built a 4-0 lead after one period. Colorado pulled Patrick Roy in the second period after he allowed six goals on 16 shots.
"We thought it would be a 1-0 game, or go into overtime, or be a 2-0 game," Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman said. "We were still thinking after the first period, 'This isn't the way it's supposed to be.'"
Tomas Holmstrom scored two goals and Sergei Fedorov, Luc Robitaille, Brett Hull, Fredrik Olausson and Pavel Datsyuk each scored for the Red Wings, who will face the Carolina Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup finals.
The Avalanche had won four straight Game 7s since losing to Dallas in 2000 Western Conference finals, but have now lost their last four Game 7s on the road.
