It took the Los Angeles Kings five years to find a way to beat the Dallas Stars. The Kings ended their 22-game winless streak against Dallas with a 3-2 victory.

"It's a great feeling to finally beat them," said Los Angeles' Luc Robitaille, who scored the winning goal at the buzzer ending the second period.

Los Angeles was 0-16-6 against Dallas entering the game and had not defeated them since a 3-2 victory on April 6, 1995, when Barry Melrose coached the team and Wayne Gretzky was captain.

"You could tell by the excitement of the fans that it meant quite a bit to them," Kings coach Andy Murray said. "It's my first year here, so I've only lost to Dallas this year. But our fans, some of the players who have been here for a while, and the management have endured quite a bit to get a win, so it is big."

Jozef Stumpel gave the Kings a 1-0 lead in the first period less than a minute after Dallas had failed to score on a two-man advantage.

"We were able to kill that 5-on-3 and then get a goal. That was the turning point," Robitaille said.

Jamie Storr made 25 saves and Ziggy Palffy and Garry Galley also scored for Los Angeles, which has won four of five overall.

Aaron Gavey and Richard Matvichuk scored for Dallas, which had its four-game winning streak snapped.

"We battled back, but we just ran out of time," Gavey said. "That two-goal lead was hard to overcome."
