Devils Finsh Trip With WinArchived from 1999-2000 season. | |
Bobby Holik scored the game winner on a lucky bounce off a defenseman's skate as the New Jersey Devils beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2.
Jay Pandolfo and Sergei Nemchinov also scored for the Devils, who finished 3-3-1 on their longest road trip of the season and increased their lead in the Eastern Conference to five points over Toronto. "It was nice to get the win tonight," coach Robbie Ftorek said. "We were not where we wanted to be, so it was an important win for us. I think the guys are ready to go home. We hung around long enough to get the points and that's the important thing for us." Martin Brodeur made 22 saves for his 38th win of the season. He is five wins away from his career-high set two seasons ago. "It's a big win," Brodeur said. "We have to play better. It was good to finish the road trip at .500." Alexei Morozov and Tyler Wright scored for the Penguins, who are still playing without injured Jaromir Jagr. "We made a bad read down deep, created a blind spot. One of our defenseman and then bang -- the first shot I think it was," Pittsburgh coach Herb Brooks said. "Then we turned it over in the neutral zone on the power play and it goes back a shorthanded one." |
