Detroit is one game away of sweeping the series after a 2-1 victory over Los Angeles Monday night. Game 4 is on Wednesday at Los Angeles.
The teams returned to a tight-checking game after a wild run and gun in Game 2, which Detroit won 8-5. "The last game was an aberration for both teams. I don't think either of us typically plays that way," said Detroit's Steve Yzerman. "But Games 1 and 3 were much more like both teams would rather play." Detroit scored both goals on power-plays, while killing off all eight Kings power-plays. "There's a difference between being physical and doing some things that are unnecessary, and we did a couple things that were unnecessary," Kings coach Andy Murray said. The Kings have lost 11 consecutive playoff games since beating Montreal in Game 1 of the 1993 Stanley Cup finals. "You can say you want to be patient, but when you're down three games to none there's no real time to be patient anymore," said Kings captain Rob Blake. Detroit's goalie Chris Osgood made 19 saves, including several key saves in the third period. "It feels good to be up 3-0, but it's sure been tough," Osgood said. "It doesn't feel like we're up 3-0 because it's been so difficult." |
