New Jersey edged a third one-goal victory against Florida, 2-1, to take a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.
"I’ve been around too long to get too comfortable with a three-game lead," Devils defenseman Ken Daneyko said. "Three games gets you nothing. You don’t win until you get the fourth one." Martin Brodeur continued his strong performances in New Jersey's net stopping 21 shots, including key saves in the third period where Panthers had 15 shots. "This is where we wanted to be," Devils Scott Stevens said. "We don’t want this to become a 3-1 series where they feel they have life. That’s why Thursday is so important. The bottom line is we’re not giving up a lot of scoring chances and I know that has frustrated them. It’s what has put us in position to win this series." The Devils outshot the Panthers 40-22. Florida managed only one shot in the second period. "It’s not like we’re losing games by four or five goals," Panthers Alex Hicks said. "Things can turn around. We’re just not getting that one goal like we need it. We just have to win this next one and go back to New Jersey." |
