Mikael Renberg scored the game-winner 38 seconds into the second period and Phoenix hold onto a 3-2 victory over Colorado.

"Once we got the lead, I felt we'd be tough to beat," Keith Tkachuk said. "Especially when we haven't had the lead to speak of in the series. So now we've just got to stay alive."

Trevor Letowski, Travis Green also scored for the Coyotes, who were outshot 38-31. Sean Burke in Phoenix' net made the difference as Colorado was pressuring in the third period.

"I felt good in the dressing room before the game, you could sense a little bit more of a purpose," Burke said. "We can't go out and not give 110 percent, every guy. That team over there has so many talented players that if we have anybody take a night or shift off, it's going to hurt us."

The Avalanche will get another chance to close the series in Game 5 on Friday at Colorado.

"They scored some nice goals," Avalanche coach Bob Hartley said. "You have to give them credit. They had lots of checks and they played well defensively. It's a matter of them putting us behind the eight ball right from the start."
