Avs Shut Down StarsArchived from 1999-2000 season. | |
Patrick Roy made the saves for his 15th career playoff shutout and second in the series as the Colorado Avalanche beat the Dallas Stars 2-0 to take a 2-1 lead in the Conference finals.
Roy extended his league record for playoff victories to 120 and tied Clint Benedict's all-time shutout mark set in the 1920s "It's fun the way the guys are playing in front of me. Tonight, they were very sharp, and our penalty-killing was a big key. Killing those two penalties right off the start gave us momentum." Shjon Podein and Adam Deadmarsh scored goals and rookie Martin Skoula had two assists for the Avs, who got a big boost from the return of Ray Bourque to the lineup. "I didn't have any problems at all moving around and felt very comfortable," Bourque said. "This was a humongous win. Patrick was unbelievable. Really, all four lines played a super game." Colorado had surprising 10 power-plays, converting one, and Dallas went 0 for 3. "We can't be happy with the way we played. It was so many different things," said Dallas left wing Kirk Muller. "We were off-key and we were always fighting in our own end. Even when you kill them all, you lose a guy and the others have to cover. Give them credit, they changed some things that we will have to review." Game 4 is on Sunday at Colorado. |
