Roy Reaches Another Milestone | |
Patrick Roy recorded his 434th career victory to move into a tie with Jacques Plante for second place on the NHL's career victory list as the Colorado Avalanche snapped a five-game winless streak with a 5-0 win over the New Jersey Devils.
"Last time I tied up (Tony) Esposito, and now it's Plante. To be part of this group means a lot," Roy said. "One thing was for sure. If we win a game, the milestone would come with it." The Avalanche has been in a horrible slump winning only five times in their last twenty games (5-10-5) and are barely holding the last playoff spot in the Western Conference. "We got tons of chances. Tonight, in the second, they finally fell in," Colorado's Joe Sakic said. "Things started to bounce onto our stick instead of up (and) over our sticks. We're still in a dogfight. It's only one win. It's great, but we have to get a streak together to catch somebody." At the other end Martin Brodeur looked at times shaky as he witnessed his boyhood idol Roy reach another milestone. Devils gave up four goals in a six-minute span in the second period as Avalanche spurted to a 4-0 lead. "They are a very skilled team. We tried to open up and then played their type of game," Brodeur said. "Outside of six minutes, we played well. We took too many chances and just can't get away with that. We tried, we just got too deep in a hole." |
