Biron Stops SenatorsArchived from 1999-2000 season. | |
Rookie Martin Biron stopped all 21 shots to earn his league-leading fifth shutout of the season as the Buffalo Sabres beat the Ottawa Senators 1-0.
"I just want to prove to a lot of people that I can play in this league," said Biron. "I want to be here and learn more and gain experience." James Patrick scored 2:37 into the first period for the Sabres, who won back-to-back games at home after losing three straight on the road. "Somehow it found a way in," Patrick said. "Max made a great play, he drew two or three of their guys to him and fed it to me. I just tried to shoot it my hardest and get it on net." Ottawa goaltender Patrick Lalime made 26 stops as the Senators extended their winless streak to a season-high five games (0-3-2). "It was a close game," said Otttawa coach Jacques Martin. "It was unfortunate on the first goal. The goalie got tripped. But it was a close game. I think we needed to generate a little bit more on the power play." The Sabres and Senators traded non-goals within a one minute span in the second period. With 7:28 to go, Vaclav Varada was judged to have interfered with Lalime, nullifying Patrick's second goal. With 6:28 left, Shawn McEachern's goal was disallowed because of a high stick. |
