The Buffalo Sabres earned a bit of revenge by beating the Dallas Stars 3-1 in the teams' first meeting since the Stanley Cup Finals last spring.

"I can't say that there is any revenge left over from last year, perhaps there was a little motivation, but our main concern is getting ourselves straightened out this year," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said.

The Sabres earned their first victory on the road in seven tries. Rookie goalie Martin Biron stopped 18 shots, getting the start because Dominik Hasek is sidelined indefinitely with a groin injury.

"I felt really comfortable after making the first save against Brett Hull on his one-timer," Biron said. "I only had to face 19 shots tonight because the guys played extremely well in front of me. It was the perfect road win."

Dallas lost its third game in a row for the first time since April 1998. The Stars' problem is lack of offense, they have been held to two goals or less for the eighth straight contest.

"Each and every guy has to look in the mirror and realize that they have to play better," Ed Belfour said. "We can't use injuries as excuses. We have to make up for the people that are missing and we are not doing that."

Dallas fell to 6-6-1 which puts them in the basement of the surprisingly strong Pacific Division.

"We are a team without a lot of confidence," admitted Dallas coach Ken Hitchcock. "When you make errors, you give up goals and that third goal took us right out of the game."
