The St. Louis Blues captured their first President's Trophy as the NHL's best team in the regular season with a 6-5 victory over the Calgary Flames, who were officially eliminated from post-season play.

"I didn't want to carry it off, it might have broke," Chris Pronger said about the trophy. "But that's (for the) regular season. We've got bigger things to go after."

His team now focusing in the playoffs, Blues coach Joel Quenneville said the trophy still means something.

"I've never done it before, so it felt pretty good," Quenneville said. "It says something about what we accomplished as a team. We improved our depth and we improved our consistent play. We found a way to win many games, and one example of that was tonight."

Scott Pellerin had a goal and two assists in the third period including the game-winner with 5:10 remaining when Calgary goalie Fred Brathwaite's clearing attempt ricocheted in off Pellerin's skates. The play was reviewed, but the goal was allowed to stand.

"I didn't give a motion to kick it in," Pellerin said. "I just kind of stopped. But I knew it went in off my foot. I knew it could have gone either way."

Marc Savard scored four times for his first career hat trick for the Flames, who will now head to the golf courses.

"To lose this game to end our season, it's tough luck," Savard said. "I just wanted to work hard tonight and keep our playoff chances alive. This is a tough one to bite. I kind of saw the offsides, then it was kicked in. I thought they've got to call one of them, and they didn't call either."
