Avs Advance To Second Round
Peter Forsberg, Joe Sakic and Eric Messier scored 38 seconds apart in the third period as the Avalanche beat the Vancouver Canucks 5-1 on Wednesday night, completing a sweep of the first-round playoff series.

"That was quite an explosion," said Avalanche forward Chris Drury, who scored Colorado's first goal in the second period. "We've got some pretty talented guys out there and at any minute we can explode like we did tonight."

Colorado, who won the first three games by one-goal margins, was finally able to dominate.

"Just because they're the eighth seed, we knew they weren't going to fall over for us," Drury said. "They definitely gained a lot of respect."
